My main hobby is Krav Maga. It’s not a sport discipline but I find it a “smart” kind of sports activity. The boxing tricks, the wrestling tricks, learning different techniques and solving difficult situations, which might happen to you in the streets, make you think about self-defense and involve all your body muscles during the training.

While preparing for Tough Viking, I included bouldering into my trainings, as it really develops the power of arms, which is very important to run the Tough Viking race. After the competition my whole body felt how effective bouldering was. This year I have improved my personal record and it’s due to the power of my arms. I managed to fight all the complex obstacles easily and fast.

Since last year I have been visiting a bouldering center quite often and which is why.

Some people might think it is boring, as this sport is very slow and non-dynamic. How can our body possibly develop? I’d like to share my humble experience.

In bouldering there is no emphasis on one certain group of exercises. We workout everything: power, stamina, agility and plasticity. Every failure gives you a challenge and makes you climb up again and again. It makes you more persistent in reaching your goal. Time flies quickly while doing this. Sometimes my sessions last about 4 hours. I would have spent there my whole day if my arms and legs hadn’t got tired.

The variety of routes and complexity levels give everyone a chance to find interesting projects which you can be good at. During trainings you will get a strong, fit, slim and bendy body, not just a pile of muscles.

Before you start the route, you should think properly, which way is the most optimal. Following the route, you need concentration and quick thinking. You also need some good coordination of your body and limbs and sense of direction. During your bouldering sessions you improve balance and coordination.

I work at the bakery and I move a lot at work. Bouldering has a positive effect on my work. I feel fit and I fully control my body, which is really important in my job.

There are some disadvantages of bouldering, as any other kind of sport. However, we are not discussing it today.

See you in a bouldering center!
